Every winter thousands of snow lovers descend on Queenstown to experience two of New Zealand’s best ski areas, Coronet Peak and The Remarkables. The closest ski areas to Queenstown both offer something for every age.
We know how important it is that the kids are kept happy and entertained. Our kids programs offer just the right mix between fun and learning. Which means mum and dad can take some time out to enjoy a day or an afternoon to themselves.
At both mountains we have dedicated terrain for the little ones which is complemented by the fully licensed Skiwiland Early Learning Centres. Children from 3 months to 5 years old are taken under the wings of our fully qualified Early Learning Teachers.
We also have a range of programs for the over 5s available to keep kids entertained over the School Holidays or anytime during their visit. Full day and half day lessons are available as well as three and five day school holiday programs.
So with the kids catered for on both mountains it just comes down to which mountain to choose!
Coronet Peak is a true Queenstown icon. Just 20 minutes’ drive from Queenstown, Coronet Peak is a world-class ski area featuring state-of-the-art facilities, 280 hectares of skiable terrain and breathtaking views.
With 213 snow guns, it boasts the country’s largest fully-automated snowmaking system. This, along with Mother Nature, ensures consistently good skiing and snowboarding from early June till the end of September.
Coronet Peak caters for all abilities. The large novice area has a separate beginners’ trail. More experienced skiers and riders enjoy varied terrain from wide groomed trails to steep off-piste runs, moguls and open bowls.
The day starts early on the mountain with First Tracks from 8am and on Fridays and Saturdays it finishes late with Night Skiing till 9pm.
Known for its friendly, relaxed atmosphere, The Remarkables is every snow lovers’ playground. There’s something for everyone – space for beginners, dedicated freestyle areas, big mountain possibilities and some of the best alpine views in the world.
Just 45 minutes’ drive from Queenstown, The Remarkables ski area has sunny, north-facing slopes across three natural bowls. With an altitude of 1943m, the mountain receives fantastic natural snow, supported by over 100 snow guns for consistent coverage all season.
This winter The Remarkables celebrates the opening of a brand new high speed 6 seat lift. This lift will take guests high into terrain previously only accessible by hiking. This chair lift (Curvey Basin) will access new novice/intermediate terrain. The beginner slopes have also been widened and made longer so the kids will more terrain than ever before to play on.
Access up to The Remarkables will also be easier thanks to the start of a road sealing project which will see the first 4kms of the road sealed for this winter. The remaining 9kms will be sealed over the next two summers.
Coronet Peak is scheduled to open June 7 and The Remarkables June 21, 2014.
