1. Klyde Warren Park
An urban green space built over Woodall Rodgers Freeway to connect Uptown, Downtown and the Arts District, there’s something for everyone at Klyde Warren Park. Kids will love the Children’s Park, dogs can run free at the dog park, and anyone can enjoy the numerous other activities, such as ping pong, a putting green and live music.
2. Dallas Zoo
Located on 43ha of land just south of Downtown Dallas, the Dallas Zoo offers a dizzying number of exhibitions and kid-specific programs. Highlights include Safari Nights, a nightly concert that starts before the kids have to go to bed, and offers wine and cold beer for parents who’ve been chasing their little ones around the zoo all day.
3. George W. Bush Presidential Library
A state-of-the-art library and museum on the campus of Southern Methodist University. Highlights of the George W. Bush Presidential Library include a full-size replica of the Oval Office and a moving exhibit about 9/11.
4. Six Flags Over Texas
Located in Arlington, outside Dallas, Six Flags Over Texas offers a bevy of thrills, with roller coasters, shows, carnival games, restaurants and more. Top Tip: buy an all-access fast pass to skip the queues.
5. Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden
Nestled on the eastern shore of White Rock Lake, just minutes from Downtown Dallas, the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden has a colourful selection of fabulous blooms throughout the year. The vast urban oasis was created on the grounds of two former mansions which still stand on the property.
6. Dallas World Aquarium
Great for a hot day, the cool interior of the Dallas World Aquarium features marine creatures from all over the world. Be sure to check out the popular Flooded Forest and Ancient Mayan exhibits.
7. Perot Museum of Nature and Science
At the gorgeous Perot Museum of Nature and Science kids can take part in dozens of interesting and compelling educational programs such as Story Time Under the Stars, Scribbles and Dribbles or Budding Scientists, which offers kids the chance to do hands-on experiments with scientists who work in the museum.
8. Historic Old City Park
Perfect for young historians, Old City Park is set along a charming red brick Main Street, home to Dallas’ largest collection of 19th Century buildings. Kids can explore the city’s oldest park and see what life was like in Texas at the turn of the century.
9. Hurricane Harbor Texas water park
The largest and most popular water theme park in Dallas, kids will love the intense and scary Twister and Black Hole rides at Hurricane Harbor Texas. Grownups might prefer simply to float with family along the Lazy River that circles the entire park.
