It’s on again – Canberra’s beautiful annual Floriade returns for 2013 from September 14 to October 13!
Commonwealth Park is set to come alive with the sights, tastes and sounds of spring as this national award-winning event’s stunning garden beds, horticultural workshops, engaging demonstrations and children’s entertainment will all be inspired by this year’s theme, Beautiful Innovation.
There is something for children of all ages at Floriade 2013. Matilda’s Farmyard and Reptiles Inc will return again this year, contrasting the cute baby animals with the scaly ones. The Circus Playground will give children the chance to try their hand at juggling, balancing on stilts and walking beams, while The Giant Cell will give them insight into what a real plant cell is like. A range of sporting activities and The Yellow Van’s Fruity Figures will give kids the opportunity to keep fit and healthy while having a great time at Floriade. There will also be face painting, fun gardening activities, scarecrow making and much more!
Julie Goodwin – best known for taking out the title of Channel 10’s first-ever MasterChef in 2009 – will kick things off in the kitchen during Floriade’s opening weekend. The best-selling author and television personality, who is also an ambassador for Oxfam’s GROW campaign, will bring her sense of humour and mum-next-door persona to Floriade, while showcasing her family-focused style of cooking that continues to make her so popular.
The month-long programme includes ABC TV’s s gardening guru Costa Georgiadis educating visitors on sustainable gardening, Lish Feyer showing how you can “Green It Yourself” by living off your own home-grown garden, The Cook and The Chef’s Simon Bryant in The Gourmet Garden plus Dr Karl Kruszelnicki, Janelle Bloom, Poh Ling Yeow and many more extra special guests.
