Families flock to the Gold Coast for year-round sunshine, but ice skating is the perfect way to cool off. Kids will also have a blast skating away a rainy day, ensuring every minute of your holiday is packed with fun.
Planet Chill Ice-Skating Rink - Surfers Paradise
Just minutes from its famous beaches, Surfers Paradise hides a surprising gem: the Gold Coast’s only permanent ice rink. Located in the kid-friendly wonderland of Paradise Resort, Planet Chill Ice-Skating Rink is the ultimate place to beat the heat.
This frozen oasis is open to resort guests and the public, including kids from three years and up. Adorable penguin skate supports make skating safe and fun for littlies, while disco lighting and music take the fun to the next level!
Planning a birthday party on the Gold Coast? Planet Chill even can be booked for kids’ parties (including optional food and entertainment packages).
After your skate sesh, catch the pros in action with Welcome to Parad-ICE: a must-see variety show that blends figure skating with theatre, acrobatics, storytelling and lots of laughs. You’ve never seen family entertainment like this! Sessions run on select dates during school holidays — here are the dates and prices for 2025 & 2026.
Dreamworld WINTERFEST - Coomera
Running for two weeks during winter, Dreamworld WINTERFEST is an annual event bringing the magic of a Northern Hemisphere winter to Aussie shores. Each year’s activities are unique, but always include plenty of frosty fun for kids, including a pop-up ice skating rink, tobogganing and snow play. Other highlights include delicious food stalls (giant pretzels, anyone?) and a winter-themed scavenger hunt that will keep kids enthralled for hours.
Dreamworld WINTERFEST runs from 27 June to 12 July in 2026 — check out Dreamworld’s social media feeds for more updates on this year’s highlights! If you’re visiting the Gold Coast in winter, this one is a must-do.
The best part: entry to WINTERFEST is included in your Dreamworld admission ticket or Annual Pass (though activities like the Winterfest Quest or the All Day Dining Pass do have an added cost and can be booked online). Ice skating is $15 per person or free for Passholders.
Iceworld Olympic Ice Rinks - Brisbane
If you’re searching for an Olympic-sized ice rink—or want to get the kids involved in competitive ice sports—you’ll have to head up to Brisbane’s two Iceworld rinks. Daily public skate sessions are offered at both the Acacia Ridge and Boondall locations (bookings recommended). Family passes mean four can skate for $110, or just $99 during school hours. Ice sports on offer include figure skating, synchronised skating, ice hockey, speed skating and curling.
