If you get your kids involved early in the planning the family holiday, they feel part of the decisions and letting them have a say on where they want to go and what they want to do can make for less meltdowns on the way.
We’ve found a great new travel app that will help kids contribute to planning family holidays and keep them busy on the trip. Bound Round is an interactive travel guide created specifically with kids in mind.
Using video and games to get kids learning about their holiday destinations, Bound Round is full of attractions that appeal to kids up to 12 years old. The app has lots of information delivered from a kid’s point of view, giving them the knowledge they need to contribute to travel planning. It helps kids be active explorers and learners and gives them some independence – all in a safe environment.
Kids can mark the destination or attraction they want to visit and they can also watch videos of local kids sharing what’s best to do in any particular place. A selection of games keeps them busy during travel and will ensure some quiet time en route. Parents also gain insight into the most family-friendly attractions as well as practical details such as opening hours, location and discounts.
Bound Round currently has eight detailed destination guides and 60 city overviews. More destinations are in development, including Phillip Island, Dubai and the Sunshine Coast.
The app has some great ‘retro’ features, including an e-postcard function that lets kids share their photos and experiences with friends and family, and a travel journal where they can record their holiday memories.
Bound Round really listens to what kids want – the company is kept informed by their Kids Board, a rotating group of up to 10 kids who make sure that every element of the app, whether it’s design, games, attractions or video, appeals to kids.
There are some great safety features, too. While content is downloaded online, the app can be used offline, meaning there are no hidden Wi-Fi costs when overseas. There is also a parent gate that must be unlocked before kids use any email functions and the app does not connect to any social media networks.
