Mum of six, Antonia Kidman has been living in Singapore with her family for the past few years. Read on as she shares her Singapore family holiday tips.
We took the opportunity to ask Antonia Kidman some questions about great things for families to do in Singapore, so if you can’t wait for the Skype chat, read on for her favourites.
Hi Antonia Kidman, tell us about your secret Singapore and what makes it such a great holiday destination?
I have lived in Singapore for over four years and my enjoyment in the city-state continues to grow. It is a wonderful mix of Malay, Chinese, Indian, and Western cultures. I love peeling back the layers and discovering Singapore’s history.
What are some things to do in Singapore that would appeal to the whole family?
The Children’s Garden at Gardens By The Bay is an extraordinary experience. The gardens surrounding the water park are beautiful and truly represent vegetation from all over the world. This is one of those places that I love to take my family to regularly.
Antonia, these days a lot of families travel with multi generations, Mum & Dad, grandparents and kids. What would be some good activities to appeal to the spectrum?
Singapore has some great theatre performances that can be enjoyed by all ages. I particularly like one of the local theatre companies called Wild Rice, which has great family-friendly productions. A visit to Chinatown or Little India is also a wonderful way to soak up the culture, as there are so many things to see and do when visiting these enclaves.
Where are some great places for families to eat outside the big hotels?
Singapore has great Hawker Centres and lots of outdoor dining options along Boat Quay and Robertson Quay. We will often visit Boat Quay for Sunday brunch, and the children enjoy riding along the esplanade on their bikes and scooters.
What are some of the best places for families to explore?
Fort Canning is a great place to explore where the kids can soak in some history. I would highly recommend one of the free-guided walks, as it’s a great way to revisit what happened with the British Commanders before the fall of Singapore.
What are your favourite attractions?
Tanjong Beach Club is a fantastic spot for lunch and a swim with the whole family. It’s the perfect place to spend a chilled day with the children on the beach, hanging out and building sandcastles.
