1. Las Vegas, USA
Las Vegas is out of this world for families.
There are so many places to stay and the hotels are so much more than just hotels.
Mandalay Bay has its own aquarium while at the Mirage there are white lions in the foyer and you can see dolphins and tigers at Siegfried and Roy’s Secret Garden.
Treasure Island has a pirate ship battle every night – the ships are huge – while at the Venetian, you can paddle in a gondola with a suitably dressed gondolier.
New York New York has the Statue of Liberty, Brooklyn Bridge and a rollercoaster that will turn you pale, while at Stratosphere, you can do the Skyjump, dropping 108 storeys. Or not. Then there’s Circus Circus, which has a circus running all day long.
Take a tour out to the magnificent Grand Canyon.
2. Broome, Western Australia

5. Mowbray Park Farm, New South Wales
Just 90 minutes from Sydney, Mowbray Park Farm delivers a real country experience for families. A working farm since 1822, it is definitely one of the best farmstays for families around.
Go for a day or a week – the kids will love horse riding, the animal nursery, hay rides and demonstrations of farm life.
Be sure to take a trailer ride to the campfire for fresh damper and billy tea.

10. National Zoo & Aquarium, Canberra, ACT
At Australia’s only combined zoo and aquarium, Canberra’s ever-expanding National Zoo & Aquarium, visitors can take a behind-the-scenes tour and get up close and personal with some of the residents.
The tours take you behind the scenes to meet and feed some of the zoo’s favourite animals on some of the most hands-on animal adventures in the country. Older kids can become a zookeeper for a day, hand-feed lions, tigers and bears on the Zoo Venture tour or play ball with a cheetah on the Meet-a-Cheetah tour while younger children are catered for in the Family Tour.
Located just five minutes from the centre of Canberra, and with a wide variety of native and exotic animals and the biggest inland saltwater tank in Australia, the zoo has something for everyone.
Sleep with the beasts! The National Zoo and Aquarium’s hotel is nearing completion and will open in 2014. From the Tree guests will be able to hand feed giraffes and braver souls can have a lion in their lounge with (safe) glass-walled feeding areas part of the safari lodges by the cat enclosure.
